Carra for the Assembly in LD-23
Dear Friend,
I am happy to share that I am seeking the Republican nomination for State Assembly in the 23rd legislative district. As a member of the next generation of Republican leaders, I am committed to returning power to the people. Politics in our state is broken, and the will of the people is too often ignored by career politicians. New Jersey, simply put, is unaffordable. We need a conservative ready to fight for others, not themselves, on day one and I am that candidate.
I am grateful for the service of Senator Doug Steinhardt and wish him luck in his confirmation for U.S. Attorney. I am also proud to support Assembly Leader John DiMaio as our next State Senator. I look forward to following in their footsteps by remaining steadfast in my conservative principles and helping unite our Republican Party. With nearly 10 years of public service at both the state and local levels, I have gained the experience, knowledge, and skills necessary to deliver results without compromising my conservative values.
In 2016, I was elected to serve on the Raritan Borough Council and had the privilege of being re-elected to this position in 2019 and 2022. From 2020 to 2023, I served as Council President. In 2023, I earned the faith, trust and confidence of voters again and was overwhelmingly elected Mayor. Winning in Raritan Borough requires grit and hard work as Democrats significantly outnumber Republicans, but I defeated my democrat opponent by nearly 20 points. I know how to win competitive races and ensure Republicans like President Donald Trump and Congressman Tom Kean win too.
As Mayor, I understand firsthand how housing mandates from career politicians in Trenton continue to place an unfair burden on our residents, schools and infrastructure. The best way to achieve affordable housing is by making New Jersey more affordable for everyone by lowering taxes and getting rid of bureaucracy. Residents should decide what happens in their town, not career politicians, Judges or greedy developers.
During my time as a Legislative Aide for Senator Kip Bateman, I quickly learned how every day New Jerseyans struggle to access basic state services. I understand the value of serving constituents and how to navigate in the weeds of government bureaucracy to achieve results.
I strongly feel we must expand support for local farming by preserving more farmland and open space to maintain our excellent quality of life in Warren, Hunterdon and Somerset. We should also feel safe and secure in our neighborhoods too, which is why we need to take the handcuffs off our police officers and put them back on criminals.
I believe I am the strongest candidate for this position based on my experience, conservative record and dedication to public service. For these reasons, I very humbly and respectfully ask for your vote.
Respectfully,
Mayor Nicolas Carra
