Press Release – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Residents living in New Jersey’s 11th congressional district and citizens throughout the state were dismayed by the shocking reports detailing the spate of vandalism perpetrated on five African-American churches in Morristown, NJ over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. These churches have been pillars in the Morristown community for decades, and in some cases, well over a century. Needless to say, the subject of these attacks was of grave concern to local authorities, and was widely addressed from pulpits in Morristown and the greater Morris County community on Sunday morning.

“Vandalism and intimidation are threats faced by peaceful communities everywhere, and should not be tolerated,” said Tamara Harris, Democratic challenger vying to defeat Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen in the 11th district. “However, these senseless acts are especially unsettling when perpetrated on safe spaces like houses of worship.”

Harris shares in the community’s relief that local law enforcement worked quickly to apprehend the alleged culprit, and commends the church pastors for collaborating with the authorities to achieve this expeditious outcome. However, she remains concerned about the lingering effect that attacks on safe havens like churches and schools can have on citizens.

Harris went on to add, “It is important that law enforcement and elected officials are unequivocal in their condemnation of any attacks against our public spaces and that they remain committed to keeping our communities safe. The NJ 11th is a beautiful community that is a great place to raise a family and offers a terrific quality of life for our residents. I will always advocate to put the safety and well being of our citizens first.”

Tamara Harris is an accomplished businesswoman, family advocate, educator and philanthropist with a proven record of helping others heal in the face of challenging domestic circumstances. She has consistently supported causes and candidates dedicated to advancing the lives and well-being of women, families, and children.
