A PUBLIC TOWN HALL WITH QUESTIONS FROM CONSTITUENTS

FOR REP JOSH GOTTHEIMER IN NJ CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT 5

(RIDGEWOOD, APRIL 22) Congressman Josh Gottheimer has been invited to a public town hall on April 22 by a coalition of 13 grassroots groups who are his constituents in NJ Congressional District 5. While the Representative’s attendance is not expected, residents are encouraged to attend, ask questions, and share their concerns with their representative and each other. Everything will be shared with the Congressman following the event.

“Town hall meetings have played a vital role in American democracy since the founding of our great nation,” states Anna Wong, Indivisible NJ-5. “They are an opportunity for elected officials to solicit feedback from those they represent, and for the entire community to come together, to find commonalities of interest, to understand one another’s differences, and to have a collective conversation on how best our elected representatives can fight for those interests in Washington.”

While the organizers appreciate the private constituent meetings the congressman holds as Cups of Joe at local diners, these personal discussions are not town halls. Multiple requests, signed by over 250 constituents, have been made to the office requesting public town halls in Congressional District 5. Seven of twelve NJ representatives, and 83% of the national Problem Solvers Caucus, co-chaired by Rep. Gottheimer, hold town halls. “The residents of this district deserve the same transparent communication,” commented Susan Steinberg, Mahwah After the March. “This Town Hall will demonstrate that citizens want to broadly engage with their representative and can do so with respect and consideration for all. We really hope this becomes a model for future events.”

All constituents of District 5 are welcome. Space is limited so reserve Tickets at https://nj_cd5_town_hall.eventbrite.com.  If you have no internet access, please leave a message with name and phone number at (201) 762-3839.
