Centenary University holds 2019 Graduate Hooding Ceremony

The first doctoral class and master’s degree candidates were presented with the academic hoods that they will wear at the University’s Commencement on May 11.

Hackettstown, N.J., May 10, 2019—Centenary University’s first doctoral class and other graduate degree candidates were presented with the academic hoods they will wear at the University’s 144th Commencement during a formal ceremony held in the University’s Sitnik Theatre on May 8. The annual tradition highlights the academic achievements of the University’s graduate students, and for many participants, symbolizes the culmination of their educational careers. They will wear their hoods during Commencement on Saturday, May 11.

Dr. Timothy Fredericks, chair of the education and mathematics department and graduate program director for the education programs, helped put the event together, saying “I felt very proud. All of the graduate faculty, both full time and part time, are very invested in the success of our students. We help guide and counsel all through the program and remain connected as they pursue their career aspirations. Our network of Centenarians is very prominent in northwest New Jersey and growing each year.”

During the event, Kenneth Cop, a 2011 graduate of the University’s master of leadership and public administration (MLPA) program, delivered the keynote address. He is chief of university police at Rutgers University. Amy D’Olivo, Ph.D., vice president for academic affairs at Centenary University, officiated over the academic hooding process. Interim president Rosalind Reichard gifted each graduate a pin that symbolizes Centenary’s gold dome.
