Chairman Currie Statement on Rep. John Lewis

TRENTON, NJ — NJDSC Chairman John Currie is releasing the following statement on the death of Congressman John Lewis (D-Georgia), one of the nation’s foremost civil rights icons. Chairman Currie’s statement is below:

“John Lewis embodied the continuing struggle for full equality and civil rights more than any other living figure, and his death marks the end of one of the most remarkable lives spent in public service in American history. His story exemplified the progress we’ve made as a nation, as he rose from a young activist putting his life on the line to fight against racism to among the most respected members of Congress in our generation. Congressman Lewis should be forever remembered as a force for change and an inspiration to all people who want to see our country rise together beyond our differences into a truly just society.”
