Chairman John Currie Calls for Jersey City School Board Trustee’s Resignation Following Hate-Filled Social Media Post

TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey Democratic State Committee Chairman John Currie is calling for the resignation of Jersey City School Board Trustee Joan Terell after posting a hate-filled, anti-Semitic social media post just days after the deadly attack at a kosher market in Jersey City. Chairman Currie joins Governor Phil Murphy, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop and other officials in calling for Terell to step down.

“School board trustees are elected to represent their communities and should serve as role models for the children living in their own neighborhoods,” said Chairman Currie. “These hate-filled comments by Ms. Terell only look to divide a city that is mourning the loss of four innocent victims in last week’s kosher market attack. Rhetoric like this has no place in New Jersey, especially coming from a representative who serves the most diverse county in the state. Jersey City deserves better than this and Ms. Terell owes the Jewish community and over 30,000 district families an apology. She cannot continue to serve her community as a fair representative following these statements and it is in the best interest of everyone for her to immediately resign from her position.”
