JERSEY CITY, NJ— Change For Children Board of Education candidates Asheenia Johnson, Sonia N. Cintron, and Karen Poliski today proudly announced their endorsement of former Vice President Joe Biden for President and Senator Kamala Harris of California for Vice-President, citing their plans for supporting and improving public education.

Vice President Biden and Senator Harris understand the importance of public education and have committed to give districts the resources they need to ensure our students get the education they deserve. However, the Change For Children team’s endorsement was driven by their comprehensive plan for how to safely reopen our schools. The Biden/Harris plan is very similar to the Change For Children position that we must follow the science on determining when and how to open our schools, and that a one-size plan does not fit all.

The Biden/Harris Plan for students, educators, and reopening our schools includes:
• Funding for safe buildings, including ventilation systems and reconfigured classrooms;
• The adoption of clear standards for deciding on when and how to reopen; and
• Following the science and experts in prioritizing who should return to classrooms first.

“I am proud to support Joe Biden and Kamala Harris because I know they will fight for every public school student, teacher, and family, and help make our vision for better Jersey City schools a reality,” said candidate Asheenia Johnson. “Much like the Jersey City Board of Education desperately needs new leadership to better serve our students, teachers, and families, our country desperately needs new leadership to do the same.”

“As an active substitute teacher, I could not be more excited about Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ plan for teachers and students,” said candidate Sonia N. Cintron. “Their plan to provide educators the support and respect they need and deserve, and investment in all children, regardless of their race or socioeconomic status, is a major step in the right direction, and is exactly what Jersey City public schools need at this critical moment.”

“Public school students and teachers alike have a friend in Joe Biden,” said candidate Karen Poliski. “Their plan for improving public education is admirable and a welcome change from the last several years of turbulent and ineffective leadership, both at the federal and local school board level. I got into this race because of the lack of leadership and planning in our school system and the negative effect it is having on our children.”
