Chiaravalloti on Veto of Bill to Postpone New Jersey Quality Single Accountability Continuum Review: ‘Unacceptable To Be Blindsided Like This’

Chiaravalloti

(TRENTON) – Assemblyman Nicholas Chiaravalloti (D-Hudson) issued the following statement on the veto of his legislation that would have postponed New Jersey Quality Single Accountability Continuum (NJQSAC) review for certain school districts to accommodate disruption due to COVID-19 pandemic:

“I am extremely disappointed that Governor Murphy decided to absolute veto A-4006, a bi-partisan bill that passed the legislature with no opposition. At no time during the legislative process did the Administration provide comment regarding the bill.

“The bill simply delayed reporting requirements of school districts for NJQSAC for this academic year.  Our schools are dealing with multiple issues related to Covid-19 and their only focus must be on providing an education for their students, safely, in the new environment we find ourselves in due to the pandemic.

“Given the heavy workload and the attention this comprehensive review requires, postponing it for school districts this year is necessary to make sure it can be done well.  I believe this legislation is one that is needed and should be given a second look.

“The Governor’s absolute veto came without negotiation or warning. It is unacceptable to be blindsided like this.”
