Chris Brown is the only Republican legislative candidate to flip a D seat to R in the country in 2017 and candidate recruitment helps preserve the Senate Republican Caucus

Westfield, NJ – Following last night’s election results, Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean made the following statement:

“In one of the toughest political environments for the Republican party in history, last night Chris Brown managed to be the only Republican legislative candidate in 2017 to unseat a sitting Democrat. Senator-elect Brown ran a tremendous campaign focused on local issues and his record of leadership.

“Last night was a difficult night for legislative Republicans around the county. Virginia Republicans lost their super majority and may lose control of their chamber. Our caucus is coming back with one fewer member, and many of our Senators saw tighter margins in their districts than to which they are accustomed. We have a caucus filled with talented and passionate representatives and we are proud of the hard work they did this election cycle to earn the support of their constituents.

“Strong challenger recruitment across the state helped prevent us from losing more incumbents. In one instance, our Senate candidate in LD-3 was able to earn a multi-million dollar independent expenditure that kept Democrat resources focused on defense.”
