Trenton, NJ – Tomorrow, Christie Administration officials will begin their seventh Annual Season of Service giving back to New Jersey residents and communities by volunteering their time and assistance to those in need. The tradition began in 2011 by Governor Chris Christie and First Lady Mary Pat Christie, who were inspired by the volunteerism and commitment to help others of then 8-year old Aidan McManus of Burlington County.
“Season of Service demonstrates that no matter who you are, we all have the power to make a difference through community service,” said Governor Christie. “I’m proud of this tradition that Mary Pat and I began nearly eight years ago and even prouder that our administration continues a strong commitment to serve our greater New Jersey family.”
Since 2011, Cabinet members and officials have participated in approximately 350 service opportunities throughout the state – volunteering at food banks, soup kitchens and shelters serving meals, packing boxes or delivering meals. They have also helped in recovery and rebuilding after Superstorm Sandy, as well as focusing on drug abuse and addiction and the work being done to overcome the disease.
