Somerville, May 23, 2017 – Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli said yesterday’s vote in the lower house demonstrated how out-of-touch Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno’s liberal stance on cap and trade is with Republican voters in New Jersey, as a bill to return the state to the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) passed 46-27 without a single Republican vote in support.

“What good is a Republican Governor if they plan to side with the Democratic majority over Republican legislators to enact a massive new tax on every resident of the state?” asked Ciattarelli, who voted against A-4701 and has made the issue a point of contrast with Guadagno on the campaign trail.  “The Lt. Governor likes to talk about how she opposes taxes but her actions speak louder than words.  Kim voted to increase property taxes over 10% in just two years as a Monmouth Beach Commissioner; watched property taxes grow to new record highs on her watch over the last 7+ years as Lt. Governor; and now is siding with Trenton Democrats to pass a massive new electricity tax that will make our state less affordable and even more hostile to business.”

Ciattarelli called the cap and trade issue a major issue in the Republican Primary for Governor.

“If you want Obama-style cap and trade in New Jersey, vote for Kim Guadagno,” said Ciattarelli.  “If you want a Republican Governor who will stand up to the Democrats on issues like cap and trade and has a detailed plan to reform our tax code and cut taxes for everyone, vote for me.”
