THE CITIZEN NEWSPAPER ENDORSES DEMOCRAT PARMIGIANI FOR FREEHOLDER

Parmigiani Urges Voters to Support Morris Democratic Slate

MORRIS PLAINS, NJ (Oct. 25, 2019)—Cara Parmigiani, the Democratic challenger for Morris County Freeholder, is responding to her endorsement by the New Jersey Hills Media group, which publishes newspapers across Morris County.

Parmigiani was the only Democrat NJ Hills endorsed for county-wide office. Parmigiani says the endorsement editorial misrepresents the urgent issues facing Morris County and the choice voters have on Nov. 5th.

“While I am deeply honored to have earned the endorsement of New Jersey Hills newspapers  and would like to thank them for recognizing the need for bi-partisanship representation, I disagree with their emphasis on maintaining Morris County ‘as is’,” Parmigiani said. “Morris County is not the well-run utopia NJ Hills describes in their editorial, and the assertion that my running mates and I are proposing initiatives already being accomplished by the incumbents is simply false. I’m asking voters to support me because I am offering new solutions to Morris County’s old problems, backed up by a plan of action. I urge anyone who supports me to support my running mates Cary Amaro and Doug Timpanaro,” Parmigiani said.

Parmigiani said the issues she has been championing in her campaign—addressing traffic and congestion, expanding vocational and technical education opportunities, and regional economic development – are not being prioritized by County government.

  1. Traffic and Congestion.

Traffic and congestion is a public safety hazard contributing to the frequency of accidents. Paving a lot of roads is not enough. We need to expand public transportation and explore complete street programs that make roads usable for pedestrians and cyclists.

  1. Expand Vo-Tech Opportunities.

We need to understand why our Vo-Tech high school is turning away students and make sure the opportunity to prepare for a skilled career and perhaps avoid exorbitant college debt is available to all our high school students.

  1. Economic Development and Tourism

We need to attract jobs and businesses that will allow residents to work closer to home and optimize opportunities, such as tourism, to build our local economy. The algae bloom that closed Lake Hopatcong this summer was an economic disaster for those local businesses and many workers were laid off from their jobs. It will be a long time before the public feels comfortable swimming in the lake and that economy recovers. We need to be supporting, promoting and expanding our tourism economy.

“I attended meetings where the Freeholders outright dismissed their role and responsibility in finding solutions for the lake,” Parmigiani said. “We need to be working with our municipalities and state leadership to address the storm sewer rehabilitation and” she said.

  1. Transparency

Morris County residents need to be aware of how their elected officials earn their money and the personal and professional relationships that present conflicts of interests. The Democratic slate for Freeholder is committed to restoring transparency to county government and instituting  disclosure policies that would make this information public.

“Finally, the endorsement editorial mischaracterizes the nature of the Morris County ‘deficit reduction.’ There has not been a Democratic Freeholder of Morris County since Douglas Romaine’s only term in 1975. In contrast, Freeholder Cabana has served on the board for over twenty years. Republican leadership caused the deficit, though it is a relief that they are finally getting control of it.”

“Again, I am very grateful for the Citizen of Morris County’s endorsement, but the integrity, independence and advocacy I hope to bring to the office of Freeholder compels me to speak out,” she said.
