City Council Candidate Kevin Bing Rolls Out COVID Outreach Plan

The election may not be until November, but Jersey City council candidate Kevin Bing is already going door-to-door. Instead of the normal get out the vote operation, this is a get out the vaccine information outreach effort. “Helping our city recover from the COVID pandemic is the biggest challenge facing our city.” said Ward C candidate Kevin Bing. Bing and his team of volunteers have been distributing literature and going door-to-door educating residents about how to get vaccinated in and around Journal Square.

“The goal of this campaign is to help the residents of Ward C. When I look at what our city needs right now – getting people vaccinated is at the top of the list. If I were on City Council right now this is the type of outreach I’d be doing. Why wait until I’m in office? Let’s get this done now.”

As of March 31, the NJ COVID dashboard showed there were 76,220 fully vaccinated people in Hudson County out of a population of 672,391. A recent analysis found that Hudson County is at the bottom in regards to the percentage of the population that has been fully vaccinated.

“Fighting COVID is an all hands on deck situation. Along with the City and the County’s efforts, we plan to fill in the gaps in Ward C. That means putting out materials in multiple languages, going door-to-door, reaching out to our neighbors with limited internet access, and accommodating communities that don’t have access to the County’s drive through vaccine site.” Bing’s campaign is offering a downloadable flyer on their website BingforJC.com/covid. Residents are encouraged to to print the flyer at home, share in their community, and inform their neighbors.

“Once there is enough vaccine supply, the biggest challenge will be getting out good information about who qualifies and where to get vaccinated. Political campaigns are great at reaching people where they are and getting out a message.” Bing said. “I figured, let’s put this campaign to work helping the community in Ward C by getting them information. Why wait?”

Jersey City residents can schedule a vaccine appointment at sites around the city by calling 201-373-2316. Currently individuals age 65 and over, workers in selected fields, and those with certain medical conditions are eligible. On April 5th, eligibility will expand to all residents 55 and over. For a full list of eligibility criteria check covid19.nj.gov.
