CITY OF PATERSON AWARDED VICTIM SPECIALIST GRANT BY THE
US DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE.
The Victim Specialist program will address the needs of victims
navigating the criminal justice system.

Mayor Andre Sayegh together with Congressman Bill Pascrell, Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale, and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora will announce the City of Paterson has been awarded a grant in the amount of $450,000. The grant awarded by The Department of Justice will fund a victim specialist program within the police department in order to better support victims through the criminal justice process. Paterson is the only city in New Jersey to have been awarded a grant by the DOJ

The funding will cover two employees. A civilian-level Victim Witness Advocate position will be embedded in the Police Department in order to identify impacted victims, assure victims are provided support, connected to resources, and the provision of appropriate information. This position will be supported by a part-time assistant.
