City of Trenton Operating Free Walk-Up COVID-19 Testing Site at Unity Square Park on Nov. 25, 2020

Trenton, N.J. – Mayor W. Reed Gusciora today announced that the City of Trenton will operate a walk-up COVID-19 testing site on Nov. 25, 2020 between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at Unity Square Park in the East Ward at Hamilton Avenue and Division Street.

There is no charge for testing. However, residents that have health insurance should bring their insurance cards. Residents must also provide some identification to verify Trenton residency.

No registration is needed, and tests will be administered on a first-come-first-served basis. Protective masks will also be provided to all residents who do not have one.

“The second wave of this pandemic is already on pace to exceed the first outbreak earlier this year,” said Mayor Gusciora. “The area around Unity Square Park includes some of our hardest hit neighborhoods, and we want to make sure our residents have access to the testing they need to mitigate the spread of the virus to their friends and family, especially now that the holiday season is upon us.”

At the start of the week, Trenton’s infection rate had reached 60.6 cases per 100,000 people, which exceeds both the state and county rates at 35.6 and 36.2, respectively. To date, Trenton has had a total of 5,003 COVID-19 cases with 80 related deaths.

COVID-19 is affecting all ages in the Capital City, with young adults age 30 and younger making up 30 percent of hospital visits related to COVID-19.

The Latino community has been especially hard-hit and currently makes up 42 percent of hospital admissions and 51 percent of emergency room visits for COVID-19 over the past 30 days

Mayor Gusciora announced new restrictions last week aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19, which will remain in effect through Dec. 5, 2020:

• All Trenton businesses, including restaurants, bars and grocery stores must close at 10:00 p.m. daily. Gas stations may stay open only to dispense gas.
• Restaurants and drive-through businesses may be open for pickup or delivery until 11:00 p.m., provided that no parties are allowed to congregate inside or outside of the establishment.
• All city residents are encouraged to remain indoors after 10:00 p.m.
• All city residents should wear masks and practice social distancing by avoiding large crowds, and, whenever possible, keeping a distance of six feet from other people.
• All city residents are strongly encouraged not to have large family gatherings on Thanksgiving and to avoid hosting visitors from states that are on the Governor’s travel advisory list.

Officers with the Trenton Police Department have already begun checking with city businesses nightly to ensure compliance with the above restrictions.
