The City of Trenton Receives Prestigious Community Award

Recognized for valuing veterans

Trenton N.J. –The New Jersey Department of Military and Veteran Affairs in conjunction with the Governor of New Jersey have awarded the City of Trenton with the “We Value our Veterans Community Award”. The prestigious award honors the City for its initiatives to help City veterans access medical care, find employment opportunities, and locate permanent housing.

“We are excited to recognize the contributions of the City of Trenton to its veterans through this award” said Brigadier General Jemal J. Beale, Commissioner, New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. To be eligible for the award, among other initiatives, the City of Trenton hosted Veterans Round-tables, provided parking spots for Purple Heart Recipients and Disabled Veterans, and promoted Veteran resources on the City’s website. Mayor Reed Gusciora, Willie Smith of the Office of Veterans Affairs, and Trenton Central High School student Ranai Morgan facilitated the City’s adoption of the initiatives.

Mayor Reed Gusciora asserted “Willie Smith and the City’s Office of Veterans Affairs are finally receiving the recognition that they deserve.” Mayor Gusciora continued, “A daily commitment to providing opportunities and resources to veterans is necessary in any community.”

Willie Smith similarly commented “This Administration recognizes those who served our nation and we hope to continue to serve them. We are committed to improving the quality of life for veterans in the Capital City.”

Governor Murphy presented the City of Trenton with the “We Value Our Veterans Community Award” on Veterans Day, November 11, 2019, at 11 a.m. The ceremony was held at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Holmdel, New Jersey.
