COMMISSIONER BILL O’DEA ISSUES STATEMENT SUPPORTING FORBES STAFF WALKOUT STRIKE

JERSEY CITY, NJ – County Commissioner Bill O’Dea, candidate for Mayor of Jersey City, has issued a statement in support of the Forbes Magazine staff walk-out strike.

The strike is in protest of the company’s stalled contract negotiations that have lasted over two years, and other workplace issues and union-busting efforts. This is the first walk-out in the magazine’s history.

The NewsGuild of New York, which represents nearly 6,000 media professionals and other employees, filed an unfair labor practice charge on behalf of the Forbes Union last week. Forbes Magazine moved its headquarters to Jersey City in 2014 and received a $27 Million Grow New Jersey tax credit.

O’Dea’s Statement:

“I fully support the unionized editorial staff at Forbes magazine who participated in the walkout strike. It takes immense courage and determination to stand up for fair treatment, better working conditions, and a more inclusive workplace. The collective action taken by these employees sends a powerful message that workers’ rights should be respected and that their voices deserve to be heard. I commend their efforts in fighting for a more equitable and just work environment.”
