Committee Hearing on Viral Outbreaks at NJ Health Care Facilities

TRENTON – The Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee will hold a public hearing on Monday to help determine the cause of the outbreak and spread of infectious diseases at several health care facilities, including the spread of the adenovirus at the Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation that claimed the lives of 11 children and infected dozens of additional patients.

Senator Joe Vitale, the chairman of the committee, called the hearing to get testimony from New Jersey Health Commissioner Shereef Elnahal and other invited participants on the outbreaks of facility-based infectious diseases.

Senator Vitale said the focus of the hearing will be on understanding what happened at the different facilities, how they responded, how the state responded and what should be done to prevent these events from reoccurring.

The Health Committee’s hearing will be held on Monday, December 03, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in Committee Room 6, 1st Floor, State House Annex, Trenton.
