Community Invited to Celebrate Impact of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)

 

MENTOR Newark’s “Welcome to the Yard: A Celebration of HBCUs” gala will offer guests an elevated tailgate experience, featuring the Shabazz High School Marching Band, honoring businesses making a difference in the Newark community and engaging panel discussion

 

Newark, New Jersey —Local non-profit MENTOR Newark is inviting community members to their annual fundraising gala on Thursday, September 26 at 6:00pm at Heritage Hall and in the atrium of the Hahne Building in Newark. The theme of this year’s gala is “Welcome to The Yard: A Celebration of HBCUs.” Guests will participate in an elevated tailgate experience, watch the Shabazz High School marching band open the event, celebrate local business Unionwear as they are honored for their community work, and hear an exciting panel discussion at 7:00pm, “Words from the Yard,” featuring impressive HBCU alumni as they discuss the impact that HBCUs and mentoring had on their lives.
