Congestion Pricing Now Issues Statement on Lawsuit from Governor Murphy Against the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)

NEW YORK, NY – Today, in response to New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy’s announcement of a lawsuit against the U.S. DOT and FHWA over congestion pricing, the Congestion Pricing Now Coalition issued the following statement:

“Members of Congestion Pricing Now disagree with Governor Murphy’s lawsuit challenging congestion pricing in New York City. The MTA’s environmental assessment of the Manhattan Central Business District Tolling Program demonstrates beyond a doubt the enormous environmental, social and economic benefits of congestion pricing. Every day we delay implementing this policy is another day we are not funding transit, reducing dangerous emissions in our air, and managing traffic congestion across New York City and the metropolitan region.

As this policy will touch communities across the region, it is vitally important that it be implemented in a way that does not impose economic or environmental costs on specific communities – especially those that have historically felt the burden of environmental injustice. The Congestion Pricing Now coalition is committed to continuing to work with stakeholders and communities to ensure that congestion pricing benefits the region.”
