Congressional Candidate Goutam U. Jois hosts free movie screening on gun lobby’s devastating impact on America

(Summit, NJ) – Democratic congressional candidate Goutam U. Jois, who is vying to unseat GOP Rep. Leonard Lance, will host a free screening of the Making a Killing: Guns, Greed and the NRA on May 29 at the Summit Free Public Library, 75 Maple St., Summit, NJ.

The screening will begin at 6:30 p.m. The film “tells the stories of how guns, and the billions made off of them, affect the lives of everyday Americans. It features personal stories from people across the country who have been affected by gun violence, including survivors and victims’ families. The film exposes how the powerful gun companies and the NRA are resisting responsible legislation for the sake of profit – and thereby putting people in danger.” The trailer can be seen here.

“In light of the shooting at Santa Fe High School, and the inaction by Congress, it’s time to mobilize and do more than thoughts and prayers,” Jois said.  “That’s why I went to Leonard Lance’s office last week, to insist that he sign a discharge petition to force a vote on expanding background checks.  Closing background check loopholes has nearly 100% support and is the absolute minimum we can do to prevent further needless gun violence. This is about more than one campaign, one election, or one party.  This movie screening is another way to get informed and then take action.”

The Facebook live-stream of Jois’s meeting is available here.

Jois, who is running for Congress in New Jersey’s 7th District, has earned praise from progressives for his fight for Democratic values and his calls to resist the policies of President Donald Trump. The Democratic primary is June 5. For more information about the campaign, visit www.jois2018.com.
