Congressman Kim Announces Grant for
First Responder PPE in Lumberton Township

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) announced a grant awarded by FEMA that will provide Lumberton Township with $150,000 in funds for new PPE for their volunteer first responders.

“Whether it’s helping our neighbors get through the recent tropical storms or getting through the coronavirus pandemic, our first responders have been on the frontlines of the biggest crises facing our communities,” said Congressman Kim. “I’m proud to work with leaders across Burlington and Ocean County, like Mayor Tuno, to advocate for additional help to keep New Jersey safe and our first responders well equipped for the challenges ahead.”

The grant, distributed through the FY 2019 Assistance to Firefighter Grant Program, will provide critical funding to help pay for new airpacks, which will be used by Lumberton’s volunteer firefighters.

“This grant will not only replace obsolete equipment with state-of-the-art PPE for our volunteer firefighters, but it will also save the taxpayers over $150,000,” said Lumberton Mayor Ryan Tuno. “Lumberton has some of the best volunteers in Burlington County and we are glad to provide them with this much needed equipment to help them in their service to our residents. I would like to thank Congressman Andy Kim for his assistance with securing this funding for Lumberton.”

Congressman Kim has been a vocal advocate in the fight to bring federal resources back home to New Jersey. In May, Congressman Kim voted to pass the Heroes Act, which would deliver more than an estimated $27.95 billion in direct aid to the state of New Jersey and our local municipalities.  Of that, more than an estimated $612 million would go to local governments in New Jersey’s Third District.
