Congressman Kim Awarded New Jersey Civilian Meritorious Service Award

SEA GIRT, N.J. – On Sunday, Congressman Kim (NJ-03) was awarded the State of New Jersey Civilian Meritorious Service Award for his continued service on behalf of servicemembers, the more than 350,000 veterans across New Jersey, and military families. Governor Phil Murphy and Adjutant General of the New Jersey National Guard and the Commissioner of Military and Veterans Affairs, Brigadier General Lisa J. Hou, D.O. presented Congressman Kim the award during the Governor’s Annual Military Review of the troops.

“One of the greatest honors of serving my community in Congress is getting to work on behalf of our local veterans, servicemembers and their families,” said Congressman Kim. “From the brave men and women in uniform at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst to those serving around the world, we have to be there for the brave people who put everything on the line for us and our freedoms. I am grateful to receive such a recognition and will stay committed to the needs of our military families and veterans to make sure they get the healthcare, benefits, and support they deserve.”

The commendation cites Congressman Kim’s significant and positive impacts to the military community including as a member of the House of Representatives’ Armed Services Committee, a steadfast advocate for New Jersey, and champion of legislation.

Congressman Kim was previously named the New Jersey Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Legislator of the Year for his work on behalf of New Jersey veterans. As the Ranking Member of the Armed Services Military Personnel Subcommittee, the Congressman leads efforts to address the needs of servicemembers and their families, including through his legislation to deliver Guard and Reserve Servicemembers no-cost TRICARE dental care, ease military families’ financial burdens through reduced interest rates, and ensure every servicemember has access to credit monitoring services. Through the annual National Defense Authorization Act, Congressman Kim prioritizes raising servicemembers pay, expanding affordable childcare access, and ensuring all servicemembers have the healthcare benefits they earned.

Congressman Kim also helped expand millions of veterans’ healthcare who were exposed to burn pits or other toxic substances through the Honoring Our PACT Act and secured a state-of-the-art Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Toms River, New Jersey to help make sure veterans can easily access healthcare through the VA.
