Congressman Kim Calls for Robust Infrastructure Investment in
Economic Stabilization Package

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, in a letter to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) called for any new spending bills aimed at stabilizing and revitalizing the U.S. economy in the wake of damage done by the Coronavirus pandemic to focus on infrastructure investments.

“The Coronavirus crisis isn’t just a health care issue, it will have a drastic impact on our nation’s economy, and it’s critical that we take steps now to ensure that impact does not cripple New Jersey’s working families,” said Congressman Kim. “We know one way to do that is to invest in New Jersey’s infrastructure. By putting men and women to work, we can not only follow through on long-term needs in our own communities, but we can provide an immediate boost to our economy. Every infrastructure project means money going back into our small businesses and main streets. I’m going to continue to press the Administration and my colleagues in Congress to put working people first as we look to secure our economy and find ways out of this crisis.”

The Congressman’s letter, which can be found by clicking here, states that it is, “critically important for any upcoming COVID-19 stimulus package to prioritize infrastructure investments.” The letter specifically calls for funding for, “new projects to rebuild our roads, bridges and tunnels” as well as projects that expand access to, “medical transportation, funds clean water projects, and boosts job quality and creation.”

Yesterday, Congressman Kim was joined by other members of the New Jersey Congressional Delegation in asking the Department of Health and Human Services to provide updates on when critical health care supplies from the Strategic National Stockpile will be delivered to New Jersey. As of last Friday, only a small fraction of supplies requested had been delivered to New Jersey.

Last week, Congressman Kim voted to pass H.R. 6201, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, a bill that provides bold action to protect those most vulnerable to the Coronavirus outbreak. Earlier this month, the Congressman voted to pass emergency funding to help respond to the outbreak crisis. Information about the funding passed in the supplemental package can be found here. Of those funds, $14 million have already gone to help contain the outbreak in New Jersey.

Congressman Kim and his office have also coordinated communications with leaders from major hospital systems, health departments, and senior community leaders across Ocean and Burlington Counties to hear their concerns about the Coronavirus and ensure they have the resources and support needed to keep us safe. Congressman Kim also was joined by colleagues in the New Jersey delegation in calling for the CDC to address testing delays, which have slowed the state’s response to the outbreak.

Congressman Kim is a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the House Committee on Small Business. More information about Congressman Kim can be found on his website by clicking here.
