Congressman Kim Celebrates Local Community Project Progress and Funding

WILLINGBORO, N.J. – Last Friday, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) celebrated investments he secured for local needs through Community Project Funding requests, including $3.45 million for the removal of PFAS chemicals at a Willingboro water treatment facility and $1.5 million for ADA and additional upgrades at the Hamilton Free Public Library.

Congressman Kim participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Willingboro Municipal Utilities Authority (WMUA) PFOS Removal Facility to celebrate completed upgrades at the facility made possible by funding he secured.

“Safe water should be a right, never a luxury. I am proud to have delivered funding to protect our community from dangerous PFAS chemicals and deliver New Jerseyans the clean water they should always be able to rely on. This successful project is a triumph of local, state, and federal partnership and I am grateful to the Willingboro Municipal Utilities Authority for working with my office to see it through and address a critical local need,” said Congressman Kim. “Crumbling and outdated infrastructure across the state and country is a threat to public health and safety. I will continue my work in Congress to make progress and projects like this possible and help look after New Jersey families for years to come.”

The Congressman later joined Hamilton Mayor Jeff Martin and Hamilton Free Public Library leadership and staff to see how recently secured funding will help renovate and upgrade the facility.

“The Hamilton Public Library has tirelessly served Mercer County families for decades without the interior upgrades it and our neighbors deserve. I am proud to bring over $1.5 million back to address an important local need, in particular to make the library more accessible to members of the community with disabilities and strengthen its resources for kids. Everyone should be able to access the power and opportunity of reading and the expansive resources a local library provides. I am excited to help make that possible in Hamilton and look forward to continuing to work closely with Mayor Martin and local leaders to see this project through,” said Congressman Kim.

In 2022, Congressman Kim secured $3.45 million in Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 Community Project Funding to provide needed upgrades to the water treatment plant to remove PFAS/PFOA from the Well 5A raw water. The PFAS concentration of the groundwater pumped from Well 5A exceeded New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection requirements and was a vital public health concern for the community.

At the ribbon cutting, the Congressman joined Willingboro Municipal Utilities Authority (WMUA) Executive Director Jim Mackie, WMUA Chair Patricia Harvey, Burlington County Commissioner Allison Eckel, Willingboro Councilwoman Dr. Tiffani Worthy, and other state and local representatives.
