Congressman Kim Condemns Misleading Department of Labor Rule on Apprenticeship Programs

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) released the following statement on newly released rules by the Department of Labor that would weaken proven union apprenticeship programs.

“Today’s announcement by the Department of Labor is a step in the wrong direction for New Jersey’s working families,” said Congressman Kim. “We’ve seen how apprenticeship programs run by our local labor organizations create a clear path to the middle class. This rule would work to close that path to countless working Americans by instituting a race to the bottom for members of our building trades. If this Administration is serious about strengthening apprenticeship programs, they should talk with the members of the building trades across New Jersey who know how to get the job done and deserve our support.”

Congressman Kim has been a strong supporter of union apprenticeship programs, working with Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) to introduce the Bringing Registered Apprenticeships to Veterans Education (BRAVE) Act. Congressman Kim also voted to pass a repeal of the ‘Cadillac Tax’ to reduce costs on negotiated health care plans, and the U.S. – Mexico – Canada Agreement (USMCA), which includes key improvements in enforcement of worker and environmental protections over the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Congressman Kim is a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the House Committee on Small Business. More information about Congressman Kim can be found on his website by clicking here.
