Congressman Kim Helps Secure $2.8 Million in Grant Funding for Freight Rail Infrastructure Improvements to Bolster New Jersey Supply Chains

NEW JERSEY – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) announced that the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association was awarded $2.8 million from the Federal Railroad Administration’s Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements program to bolster and increase efficiency in our statewide supply chain.

“Our railroads keep our country moving. Not just with commuter trains, but by shipping food, goods, and so many other things that keep our economy running,” said Congressman Kim. “With this grant, we are hoping to see greater efficiency and effectiveness across both commuter and freight rail along the vital Northeast Corridor. Quicker delivery of essential goods and services mean more options at the grocery store for families and more security for people living and working here. I am glad that my office was able to help secure this funding so our local railroad infrastructure can better serve people across New Jersey.”

“ASLRRA is grateful for the leadership of Congressman Andy Kim and all those members of the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives from the Northeast who have supported this critical project,” said Chuck Baker, ASLRRA’s president. “We also appreciate FRA’s support for this grant, which will help advance technology and ease PTC data bottlenecks that will allow our short line members to more efficiently move goods and freight throughout the Northeast Corridor (NEC). The project also has important benefits for passenger and commuter rail along the NEC, and we look forward to working with Wabtec and all our partners to further improve fluidity along the rail network.”

This grant funding will provide rail safety and rail supply chain upgrades through the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) program. The project will have a dramatic impact on improving the long-term safety, and security of the railroad’s operation throughout New Jersey and the Northeast Corridor.
