Congressman Kim Honored with National Award for Promoting Volunteerism and the Power of Service

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) received Voices for National Service’s John Lewis Bridge to Service Award for his support of AmeriCorps, AmeriCorps Seniors, and his ongoing commitment to expanding opportunities for Americans of every background to serve and volunteer in their community.

“I am humbled to receive this award named in honor of a great American hero and public servant, the late Congressman John Lewis. I had the privilege of learning from his leadership up close in the halls of Congress. Guided by his courage and vision for our nation, I have hope in the power of service to uplift communities and strengthen democracy,” said Congressman Kim. “From volunteers at local food banks in South Jersey to AmeriCorps members, I am inspired by what people accomplish every day when they harness their own passions and strengths to give back to others. By building off this gift of service and recommitting ourselves to serving one another, I believe we can overcome even our greatest challenges and work toward a brighter future for our country.”

“Congressman Kim is a remarkable public servant with an impressive legacy of commitment to country and community. He is constantly seeking ways to bring our country together and he sees service as a strategy to bridge divides, uniting Americans in common purpose to tackle tough challenges,” said AnnMaura Connolly, President of Voices for National Service. “Representative Kim is only the third recipient of the prestigious John Lewis Bridge to Service Award. It is our immense privilege to honor him.”

Congressman Kim accepted the award at the 21st Annual Friends of National Service Awards ceremony and as AmeriCorps celebrates its 30th anniversary.

Voices for National Service advocates for public support of AmeriCorps programs that respond to the country’s most immediate and pressing challenges from natural disasters to education, supporting veterans, and more. The John Lewis Bridge to Service Award is given to a member of Congress in recognition of their unwavering commitment to expanding opportunities for Americans of every background to serve and volunteer in their community. Congressman Kim is the third recipient of the John Lewis Bridge to Service Award, following Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) in 2022 and Rep. Gwen Moore (D-WI) in 2023.

Congressman Kim is a member of the bipartisan National Service Congressional Caucus, dedicated to raising awareness of national service and expanding service opportunities in America. He also introduced a legislative package to supercharge national service which among other things would support AmeriCorps members and Peace Corps Volunteers, uplift service-learning in classrooms, and create a new federal agency to oversee national volunteer opportunities. To uplift the power of individual service in local communities, Congressman Kim honors a Service Spotlight each month from New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District.
