Congressman Kim Lifts Up Disability Pride Month, Infrastructure Improvements on 77th Town Hall
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) hosted a telephone town hall to hear directly from neighbors, share updates from his recent work in Congress, and recognize Disability Pride Month and the upcoming 34-year anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
To begin his 77th town hall, Congressman Kim repeated his condemnation of the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump on July 13th, shared his support of a bipartisan congressional task force to investigate the security failures at this event, and spoke to the importance of grounding ourselves in empathy and humanity, even in times of great turmoil.
During his town hall, Congressman Kim recognized the upcoming anniversary and transformative impact of the ADA, and was joined by Gwen Orlowski, Executive Director of Disability Rights New Jersey, who spoke about their work advocating for individuals with disabilities, uplifting disability rights as civil rights, how to build off of the ADA’s success and promise, and how to access direct support and resources.
Before answering questions from neighbors, the Congressman provided an update from his recent conversations with Amtrak, NJ Transit, New Jersey state leadership, and the U.S. Department of Transportation on the progress of addressing New Jerseyans’ ongoing transit delays. He also spoke about this week’s votes in the House, including his vote to pass the bipartisan Water Resources Development Act of 2024 to deliver New Jersey critical water resource infrastructure improvements and investments, and the progress of voting on two more of the 12 appropriations packages needed to keep the federal government functioning for the American people. He expressed his frustration as Republicans continue to risk the bills’ success by pushing hyper-partisan provisions into what should be bipartisan legislation.
Congressman Kim is the Ranking Member on the Military Personnel Subcommittee, and a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, and the House Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party.
