Congressman Kim Votes to Deliver More than $27 Billion in Critical Funds to New Jersey

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) released the following statement on the passage of the Heroes Act, a bill that would deliver more than an estimated $27.95 billion in direct aid to the state of New Jersey and our local municipalities.  Of that, more than an estimated $612 million would go to local governments in New Jersey’s Third District.

“New Jersey needs help. We’ve been hit hard by this pandemic, and we’ve been hit hard by the economic crisis. The Heroes Act isn’t a perfect bill, but it could bring hundreds of millions in much needed direct aid to Burlington and Ocean Counties. That’s funding that will keep our teachers and first responders on the job and help make sure our local municipalities can keep budget without raising taxes. Now that we’ve passed this bill, the hard work will begin to find compromise with our colleagues in the Senate. I will not compromise, however, on a bill that doesn’t deliver for our communities and neighbors in New Jersey that have been hardest hit by this pandemic.”

If enacted, Ocean County would receive more than $341 million, and Burlington County would receive more than $250 million in funds. In addition, every municipality in the Third District would be eligible to receive funds to help offset revenue losses from the Coronavirus crisis. For example, Toms River would receive more than $29 million, Evesham more than $22 million, Willingboro more than $15 million, Lacey more than $14 million, Shamong more than $3 million and Mount Laurel more than $20 million.
