Congressman MacArthur Honors 21 South Jersey WWII Veterans in Ceremonies

Toms River, New Jersey—Congressman Tom MacArthur held two ceremonies this week honoring the Greatest Generation. 21 South Jersey World War II veterans were recognized in Toms River and Medford. Private Jack Mascola of Toms River and Sergeant Arthur Goldschmidt of Moorestown spoke on behalf of the veterans in attendance. Both men are U.S. Army veterans.

“I had the privilege of recognizing some of South Jersey’s finest—our World War II veterans and their families,” said Congressman MacArthur. “They risked their lives and many gave their lives so we could live free. These heroes are a part of an unbroken chain of patriots who have served this country with honor throughout the life of our nation. ‘Thank you’ will never be enough, nor can it be said often enough. Our country will never forget the sacrifices and triumphs of these American patriots.”

Private Jack Mascola and Congressman MacArthur

Private Jack Mascola served in the United States Army from 1941-1943. During the Toms River ceremony, he gave remarks to all in attendance on his patriotism and service. Private Mascola and his wife, Emily recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary.

Congressman MacArthur and Sgt. Arthur Goldschmidt

In Medford, Sgt. Arthur Goldschmidt, who served in the United States Army from 1943-1945, spoke about his fight at the Battle of the Bulge and his love of country. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Silver Star for his service. Sgt. Goldschmidt received a battlefield promotion from Private to Sergeant.

Many of the veterans in attendance were assisted by Rep. MacArthur’s constituent services team when they faced issues with the VA.
