Congressman Sires Calls for Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta to Resign

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Representative Albio Sires (D-NJ), issued the following statement regarding Labor Secretary Acosta’s 2008 work to broker a deal for Jeffrey Epstein:

“Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta has to resign. As a United States Attorney in 2008, he worked to broker a deal that kept convicted child molester Jeffrey Epstein from paying for his terrible acts. Epstein’s crimes were well-documented even back then, and still Acosta and his team went out of their way to deny his victims justice and ensure that Epstein served little time in prison.

“These actions demonstrate that Alexander Acosta’s judgment was and, considering his recent defense for the deal he brokered for Epstein, continues to be compromised. He cannot be allowed to continue serving the American people in his role as Secretary of Labor, which is why I will be sending a letter with myCongressional colleagues to President Trump urging him to immediately demand Secretary Acosta’s resignation.

“We must not reward people who failed to represent victims’ best interests with a public service post. Due to his terrible decision 11 years ago, for his continued support for that deal, and for the sake of Epstein’s victims, Secretary Acosta has to go.”
