Congressman Sires Recognizes Northwest Essex Community Healthcare Network for Receipt of Grant to Continue Services
(Washington, D.C.)- Congressman Albio Sires (D-NJ) announced that Northwest Essex Community Healthcare Network, serving Belleville, NJ, has received a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) worth $3,999,907.
“Despite the ongoing pandemic and the challenges it poses, behavioral health care providers have continued to treat some of the most vulnerable individuals in our community,” stated Rep. Sires. “New Jersey was one of the original states to participate in the Medicaid Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHC) demonstration program, where CCBHCs like Northwest Essex Community Healthcare Network provide comprehensive and integrated behavioral health care and substance use disorder treatment for constituents of the 8th District. This funding from SAMHSA will enable these centers to continue and expand their important work, while addressing new obstacles to care imposed by COVID-19 .”
SAMHSA awarded a total of $450 million to CCBHCs in order to increase access to community mental and substance use disorder (SUD) treatments. The award total included annually appropriated funding for CCBHC Expansion Grants and additional emergency funding for COVID-19.
