Congressman Sires’ Statement on Emergency Funding Priorities
Congressman Sires’ Statement on Emergency Funding Priorities
(Washington D.C.) – Today, Congressman Albio Sires (D-NJ) released the following statement about the need to put workers and neighborhood businesses first in future coronavirus (COVID-19) emergency funding packages:
“As we work on future stimulus and emergency funding packages, I need to make one thing clear. I will not support legislation that bails out massive corporations and does not support the needs of workers. We have to focus on the needs of families and those who have lost their jobs due to the outbreak, not corporations who used past profits to buy back stocks and give bonuses to executives. We cannot allow future stimulus packages to mirror the 2017 tax cuts which disproportionately gave benefits to the wealthy and corporations. Our priority must be the individuals and neighborhood businesses that are the backbone of our communities. I strongly believe that we can put together bipartisan legislation that will help those hit the hardest by the economic fallout of the COVID-19 outbreak and I will work with my colleagues to do just that.”
