Congressman Sires Votes to Pass Emergency Housing Protections and Relief

(Washington, D.C.)  Last night, Congressman Albio Sires (D-NJ) voted in favor of H.R. 7301, the Emergency Housing Protections and Relief Act, which passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 232-180.

Residents of New Jersey’s 8th District, along with families across the country, are struggling to pay their rent and mortgages as the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic continues,” said Rep. Sires“We need response measures that match the severity of the situation which is why I proudly support H.R. 7301. No one should have to worry about keeping a roof over their head, especially during a global pandemic. Senator McConnell should take H.R. 7301 up for a vote and not ignore the needs of the people.

Among the provisions to provide housing protections and relief, H.R. 7301 would extend the eviction moratorium to March 27, 2021 and expand it to cover all renters. Furthermore, the bill would provide $100 billion for emergency rental assistance that can be using to cover rent and utility bills as well as $75 billion for a Homeowner Assistance Fund for homeowners who are struggling to pay housing costs
