Senator Kristin Corrado (R-40) lauded the signing of equal pay legislation into law.

“New Jersey has paved the way for women by being a national leader in the fight for equal pay,” Corrado said. “I am honored to stand with women across our state in the fight for equal pay for equal work. This law honors all of the women who have dealt with sex and wage discrimination in the workplace. Today, we’re standing up to say, ‘no more!’”

Corrado has been a fierce advocate for pay equity and proudly voted “yes” on the legislation signed today, the Diane B. Allen Equal Pay Act, which aims to toughen protections against employment bias and support equal pay for women.

That bill was named for Corrado’s colleague, former Senator Diane Allen, who experienced wage discrimination during her career as a television anchor, prior to her 22 years of service in the New Jersey Legislature.

“A person’s gender should never be a determining factor in their salary,” added Corrado. “Our daughters will now learn about wage discrimination in their history class, not experience it as a reality in the contemporary working world. I hope our advances made on a bipartisan basis will pave the way for other states to follow in our footsteps and make wage discrimination a thing of the past.”
