Senator Kristin Corrado’s (R-40) bipartisan legislation to establish “Women’s Veterans Appreciation Day” in New Jersey has unanimously passed the State Senate.

“Women in the military play an invaluable role in defending the freedoms we hold near and dear,” Corrado said. “From pilots to physicians, and infantry to intelligence, our nation’s survival is dependent on the heroism of our patriotic women. To commemorate all women who have bravely served our country throughout wartime and peacetime, it is only fitting we dedicate June 12 as ‘Women’s Veteran Appreciation Day.”

Corrado’s resolution, SJR-114, designates June 12 of each year as “Women’s Veterans Appreciation Day.”

According to the Council on Foreign Relations, women make up 16 percent of enlisted active duty forces, and 18 percent of the officer corps. In New Jersey, women constitute roughly 18 percent of the total population of the New Jersey Army National Guard and make up 23 percent of the New Jersey Air National Guard.

“Our servicewomen fight, serve, and sacrifice while upholding the values that make New Jersey and the United States great,” Corrado added. “I urge the Governor to sign this resolution into law as soon as possible.”
