Jersey City, NY – As one of his last acts following his election denial, alleged criminal schemes to overthrow the election, inciting the January 6th insurrection, and then bailing on attending the peaceful transition of power, former President and convicted felon Donald Trump pardoned another convicted felon – New Jersey GOP political boss George Gilmore. Gilmore had been convicted in a tax evasion case.
Now? He’s raising money for Jim McGreevey for Mayor of Jersey City.
Who is the cohost? Frank Sadeghi. The same Sadeghi who gave a job to Gilmore’s wife after his conviction at an engineering firm. As Politico reported, “The job arrangement shows that even during Gilmore’s darkest time, a key ally found a way for him to continue earning money — if indirectly — through public contracts.”
This is just a merry-go-round of corruption.
Gilmore’s story is a classic Jersey corruption story.
Upon his release, was Gilmore the least bit reflective? No: “In a statement released by his attorney, Gilmore asserted Trump “recognized the injustice of my conviction and used the power of his office to right that wrong.”
So who were some of the people who the Trump White House said supported pardoning yet another corrupt New Jersey Party Boss? A who’s who of Jersey’s ethically rogue actors.
- Michael Testa, Jr., who is currently under a federal investigation.
- Trump 2020 campaign manager Bill Stepien, who Chris Christie said this about in 2014 during Bridgegate: “I was disturbed by the tone and behavior and attitude of callous indifference that was displayed in the emails by my former campaign manager, Bill Stepien,”
- Ethically challenged John Bennett.
And….. Jim McGreevey (who resigned because of his own ethical scandals).
Since his pardon, Gilmore was hit with a suspended law license and recently, Bill Spadea, Republican candidate for governor, touted how he would work alongside Gilmore to “help elect President Trump this year and then take back control of our state in 2025!”
James Solomon for Mayor Campaign Manager Stuart Thomas said: “Jim McGreevey is raising money from an unrepentant Trump-pardoned MAGA acolyte who is determined to beat Kamala Harris and elect a Republican Governor in 2025. Jim McGreevey’s willingness to take money from anyone – but especially from a MAGA party boss – says loudly and clearly that his priority is not changing Jersey City; it’s doing the same old corrupt politics people are sick of. There is only one candidate in his race with the backbone to stand up to developers and the machine and that’s James Solomon.”
