COUGHLIN PLEDGES FULL RESTORATION OF HOMESTEAD PROPERTY-TAX RELIEF

Friends —

On my first day as Speaker of the General Assembly, I promised that my first priority would be ensuring that we stand up for seniors, disabled and working families so they can afford to continue living in New Jersey.

Over the past few months, I have been listening to the concerns of my constituents and citizens throughout our State.  With every conversation I have had, it has become clearer: New Jersey has gotten too expensive and many worry they cannot afford to stay. I recently appeared on NJTV to talk more about these issues:

The Assembly is fully committed to passing a budget fully restoring the Homestead relief program in order to help ease the burden on our seniors, disabled community and working families.

Last year, our residents were surprised with tax bills that were much higher than expected. It’s simple – taxpayers deserve better.

More than 600,000 New Jersey homeowners benefit each year from the Homestead program, which provides property tax relief credits and rebates to help take some of the sting out of high property tax bills. This program is something we cannot slice, especially given the benefit to our seniors, disabled community and middle class families of property-tax relief.
