Councilman Arvin Amatorio Announces Bergenfield’s Prestigious Status as One of Eight “Healthy Towns” in New Jersey

BERGENFIELD, NJ — The borough of Bergenfield was recently named a “Healthy Town” by the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute, an honor awarded to only eight towns in the state. Councilman Arvin Amatorio, for one, is not surprised by this recognition, and intends to continue stewarding the Borough in a health-conscious direction moving into the future.

“With my colleagues on the Borough Council, and the Health Department leadership, we identified obesity and cardiovascular health as top concerns among residents and focused on addressing it,” said Councilman Arvin Amatorio. “Alongside the administration, we organized a Community weight loss challenge – a series of physical activity programs that provided exercise classes to residents with regular weigh-ins, and encouraged residents to take advantage of our great parks and open space as areas for exercise.”

The Borough also partnered with the library, schools, businesses and our restaurants that offer specials on healthy menu items.

“We are fortunate to have a great Health Department that prioritizes physical and mental well-being for the community, and Bergenfield Public Health Nurse Patricia August, MSN won the Public Health Nurse of the Year Award for 2018, which is wonderful,” said Amatorio. “I would like to thank the Quality Institute for their continued partnership, and I look forward to working with the Health Department to expand our public health initiatives.”

The Quality Institute provides participating communities with a toolkit on how to get started, guidance on how to identify local health needs, and examples of specific actions that other communities are taking to improve health and wellness in their community.

Amatorio currently serves as the Bergenfield Council Finance Committee Chairman, where he has drafted the past two municipal budgets with 0% local tax increases. He is a Managing partner of a law firm that specializes in Immigration Law, helping people come to our country to live the American Dream. As a Councilman, he has organized annual free outreach events, health fairs, and immigration seminars for the community.
