Councilman at-Large Juan Perez Running for Re-Election With Team Davis

City’s First Hispanic Councilman Seeking Third Term

 

BAYONNE, N.J. — Councilman at-Large Juan Perez will run for re-election alongside Mayor Jimmy Davis and his team in the upcoming May nonpartisan contest. Councilman Perez is a former Hudson County Sheriff who was elected in 2014 as the city’s first Hispanic Council member, and since that time he has worked closely with Mayor Davis to keep the community safe, stabilize property taxes and improve services for residents.

“In these difficult times Bayonne needs a leader we can count on to guide our community, and there is no one I would rather see in that role than Mayor Davis,” said Councilman Perez. “From managing the city’s response to COVID-19, to being there for residents and businesses impacted by Hurricane Ida, to revitalizing our parks and improving recreation programs, Mayor Davis always gets the job done for us and he’s the right choice to continue leading Bayonne.”

While serving as Hudson County Sheriff, Councilman Perez managed a department of over 300 sworn officers and provided policing services throughout the county. Prior to his time in elected office, Councilman Perez’s law enforcement career included 26 years in the New Jersey State Police, eventually rising to the level of Captain. A former Former Deputy Director of the Jersey City Police Department, Juan Perez e is the founder and past president of the Hispanic Law Enforcement Association, past board of trustee and vice chair of the Jersey City Medical Center board, former school teacher, and a lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol. Perez has lived in Bayonne for nearly 25 years.

“Councilman Perez understands what it takes to keep Bayonne neighborhoods safe, to invest in our essential services and to stabilize property taxes, which is why I’m glad to have him once again join our team,” said Mayor Davis. “As one of our city’s most respected leaders, Juan Perez is a great addition to our team and I’m looking forward to working with again to move Bayonne forward.”

Councilman Perez joins two other previously announced candidates on Team Davis including Third Ward Councilman Gary La Pelusa and First Ward Councilman Neal Carroll. Mayor Davis officially announced his re-election campaign recently and he will be rolling out additional members of his slate as well as endorsements and other news in the coming weeks.
