County Clerk-elect Junior Maldonado, former Ward E Councilman, Endorses Rebecca Symes in Runoff

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Freeholder and County Clerk-elect E. Junior Maldonado has endorsed Rebecca Symes for Ward E Council. Born and raised in Jersey City, Maldonado served as Ward E Councilman before Mayor Steven Fulop won the seat in 2005. He has served as District 4 Freeholder on the Hudson Board of Chosen Freeholders since 2013, when he was appointed to fill a vacancy, and will be sworn in as Hudson County Clerk in January.

“Having known this community so well all of my life, I know that Rebecca is the best candidate to represent the residents of Downtown Jersey City,” said Clerk-elect Maldonado. “Rebecca has unmatched experience, including serving in a senior staff role with U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, working for a nonprofit focused on affordable housing and through her extensive experience in the private sector. Her passion for community service, and ability to get things done make her the best choice to represent us.”

Maldonado’s endorsement Rebecca Symes follows other major endorsements from current Ward E Councilwoman Candice Osborne, Councilman at-Large Daniel Rivera, former Ward E candidate Nicholas Grillo and several prominent local labor unions. “I am honored to have the support of Junior Maldonado, someone who has a deep connection to Downtown Jersey City and understands as well as anyone the role city government can play in improving people’s lives,” said Symes. “His support in this runoff election adds to our momentum, with residents joining our campaign to keep moving Jersey City forward. If elected, I will work diligently with Clerk-elect Maldonado and all Hudson County officials to make sure the needs of Downtown are being met.”

Symes received the most votes in the November 7 election, with a lead of over 700 votes in front of the second place finisher, James Solomon. The two are now facing each other head to head in the runoff election next Tuesday, December 5th.
