County Executive Hughes advances funds to protect children, families, older adults

Mercer County works to improve welfare of all

When it comes to good governance, one of our most important responsibilities is to help people meet their basic human needs and to offer our support. Mercer County is proud to partner with numerous agencies that help people thrive, especially children, families and older adults who are at risk, vulnerable and in need of assistance. This week, among the resolutions I advanced to the county commissioners were 10 totaling more than $1.2 million in funds to improve the lives of Mercer County residents. All resolutions were unanimously supported.

For people at risk of homelessness

  • To Arm in Arm Inc. for Homelessness prevention and emergency assistance, $131,600 and $107,600
  • To Catholic Charities for the support and services to older adults with substance abuse or mental health diagnoses who are at risk of being homeless, $94,300

Assistance to children and families

  • To Catholic Charities for issues and challenges faced by children relocated to the U.S. from other countries, $80,000
  • To Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Greater Mercer for early intervention services aimed at children age 2-6, $25,850; and for bilingual outreach to Spanish-speaking clients, $30,000

For Older Adults

  • To Jewish Family and Children’s Services of Greater Mercer for geriatric care management for functionally impaired older adults age 60 and older, $94,508
  • To Mercer Care Partners Medical Home Health Care for home health aid services to medially needy and economically disadvantaged older adults; $314,551

Addressing addiction services and mental health

  • To Catholic Charities for outreach, access and recovery case management for specific alcohol and drug abuse prevention, treatment and education, $200,000
  • To Jewish Family and Children’s Services of Greater Mercer for mental health services, $135,300

Supporting people who are in need is deeply embedded in the work we do every day in Mercer County. We are committed to partnering with local agencies,  governments, schools and parents to ensure that children and families have the services and resources they need.
