Cruz-Perez Bill Authorizing the Impoundment of All-Terrain Vehicles, Dirt Bikes by Law Enforcement Signed into Law

TRENTON – Legislation sponsored by Senator Nilsa Cruz-Perez that grants law enforcement the authority to impound all-terrain vehicles and dirt bikes was signed into law today by Governor Phil Murphy.  The law allows the impoundment of the vehicles if used in crimes and offenses including drugs sales, prostitution and weapon possession.

“ATVs and dirt bikes have been plaguing our community for quite some time now,” said Senator Cruz-Perez (D-Camden/Gloucester).  “They fly down our roads, alleyways and through yards so quickly, putting the public’s safety at risk.  I am relieved that the vehicles used in committing crimes and evading police will now be taken off our streets, increasing the safety of our communities.”

Specifically, this law clarifies that all-terrain vehicles and dirt bikes are now classified as motor-vehicles and as such can be impounded by law enforcement.
