CRYAN, QUIJANO AND ATKINS FILE PETITIONS FOR PRIMARY

“We will keep fighting every day to keep our communities safe”

UNION – Senator Joe Cryan, Assemblywoman Annette Quijano and Reverend Reginald Atkins announced today that they have officially filed their petitions for June 8th’s 20th legislative district Democratic Primary election today in Trenton.  Cryan is running for re-election to the State Senate while Quijano is running for re-election to represent the district in the General Assembly and Atkins is running for the Assembly seat vacated by Jamel Holley.

The candidates released the following statement.

“It is our great honor today to file our petitions and formalize our campaigns to represent the 20thlegislative district.  These are among the most difficult times many in Elizabeth, Union, Roselle and Hillside have had to contend with and we are still not on the other side of this horrific global pandemic.  We have worked hard to keep our constituents updated and protected and will continue to fight to safely and securely re-open our schools and our small businesses while prioritizing scientific guidance with the safe distribution of vaccinations.

Now, more than ever, leadership and guidance are critical characteristics required of our elected officials and we do not take that responsibility for granted.  Over this past year we have seen too many families, friends and neighbors impacted by COVID-19.  We have every intention of seeing this fight to its end.

While we maintain our focus on the fight against the coronavirus, we will keep working to get our fair share of education funding from the state to make sure our children, our educators and our families have what they need to get a quality education.  At the same time, we will move forward with the critically important work needed to further combat sexual harassment and abuse as we also to strive for social justice and racial equity in communities everywhere.”
