Cunningham Bill Increasing State Aid to Support the Liberty Science Center Advances

TRENTON – Legislation sponsored by Senator Sandra B. Cunningham that would increase state aid to the Liberty Science Center to previous years’ levels was cleared by the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee today.

“The Liberty Science Center is more than just a museum, it’s a premier learning center that has inspired the hearts and minds of our youth and families for 25 years,” said Senator Cunningham (D-Hudson).  “The additional state aid that would be provided to the center would allow it to remain one of our state’s most prized assets, while also providing top quality programs and exhibitions to the public.”

The Fiscal Year 2019 Appropriations Act included a $10.799 million appropriation to the Liberty Science Center which was $1 million more than the Governor included in his budget.  The bill, S-2890, would make a supplemental appropriation of $2.561 million which will equal the amount of state aid from previous years.

The bill cleared the Senate yesterday by a vote of 12-0.
