Cunningham Statement Commending the Governor for Pushing Expanded Voting Rights in State of the State
TRENTON – Senator Sandra B. Cunningham issued the following statement commending Governor Phil Murphy’s push for the expansion of voting rights to non-violent convicted felons during his State of the State address:
“The incarcerated are among the most underrepresented population in the state. New Jersey already allows for former non-violent felons to vote, but we can do better. I applaud Governor Murphy for promising, in his State of the State address, to push hard on expanding voting rights for convicted non-violent felons who are currently in prison. New Jersey could become a leader in this country with this needed criminal justice reform. I look forward to working with him on this important issue in the near future.”
