Today, the Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and the New York Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation announced the arrest of Craig Carton and Michael Wright for allegedly defrauding investors in a $2 million ticket Ponzi scheme, apparently in order to pay back gambling debts, according to news reports. Carton, a former host of New Jersey 101.5, has co-hosted WFAN’s “Boomer and Carton” morning show since 2007. His co-defendant, Michael Wright, is a New York strip club executive from Upper Saddle River.

Carton is the same person that Governor Chris Christie offered to hand off the governor’s official residence to for a fight night party. The offer came as Christie, whose disapproval rating reached a record high, was auditioning at the radio station for employment after he leaves office. Later, Christie proposed giving the alleged defrauder use of his much ballyhooed private beach house — the same one he lorded over constituents who were angry he had closed state beaches by saying, “Run for governor, and you can have a residence.”

New Jersey Democratic State Committee Chairman John Currie criticized the governor for his continued abuse of public resources and for his poor choice of associates. “Lost in the sheer craziness of the Trump administration’s dangerous and divisive agenda is the fact that Governor Chris Christie has wasted tens of millions of New Jersey taxpayer dollars to advance his political and personal agenda, even while his constituents suffered the consequences, from a a weakened economy and crumbling transportation infrastructure to closed beaches and bridges,” said Currie. “I mean, it’s offensive that his top aides were just convicted of federal crimes, and yet he’s playing footsie with people who are currently enmeshed in criminal activities. If the governor wants to play recklessly in that brash-talking, loosey-goosey world, that’s his choice, but New Jersey shouldn’t have to pay the tab. We deserve better,” Currie said.
