Why is Dark Money Funding Gordon Johnson’s Primary Election?

Valerie Vainieri Huttle, candidate for State Senate in District 37, today called on opponent Gordon Johnson to explain to the voters of District 37 why dark money groups are funding his primary campaign:

“I am running for State Senate in a primary because I believe in expanding transparency in our political system. Meanwhile, Gordon Johnson is doubling down on a flawed and crooked process, teaming up with dark money groups and a Republican supporting Super PAC.”

“All it takes is a simple search to ascertain that Stronger Foundations Inc., the questionable entity behind many of Gordon Johnson’s mailers and ads, is a Republican-controlled Super PAC. In fact, it is even more alarming that Gordon Johnson, a self-proclaimed progressive candidate, would accept the backing of an organization that at the same time is running attack ads against Governor Murphy.”

“Gordon Johnson’s decision to ally himself with Republican special interests flies in the face of the values that we hold dear as Democrats. It also makes you wonder, what deals did Gordon make to get him the support of a Republican Super PAC? What Democratic values did Gordon Johnson sacrifice?”

“Here’s what I do know: despite dark money’s attempts to buy this election for Gordon Johnson, the voters of District 37 can’t be bought, they don’t want a Senator who is willing to sell out, they want a Senator who answers to the voters and the voters only.”
