DCCC Statement on Congressman LoBiondo’s Retirement

Upon the news that Congressman Frank LoBiondo (NJ-02) will not seek re-election, DCCC spokesperson Evan Lukaske released the following statement:

“Congressman LoBiondo’s retirement should come as no surprise after Speaker Ryan’s Congress has failed to get anything done on behalf of hardworking people across the country. Congressman LoBiondo knew that the Republican healthcare repeal bill would rip away coverage from New Jerseyans and increase their costs, and now he’s clearly opposed and ashamed of the Republican tax scam that raises taxes on middle class families in order to give breaks to the biggest corporations and special interests.

“LoBiondo has consistently opposed his own party’s harmful policies, and it’s clear he was no longer willing to be associated with establishment Republicans in Washington.

“Congressman LoBiondo’s retirement opens up a very competitive seat that President Obama easily won twice. Democrats are confident that a strong candidate will step up to run and represent the people of New Jersey’s 2^nd Congressional District.”
